3 Vintage Rolex Watches Set World Record Prices at Phillips Auction House

Three Rolex watches set record-breaking prices at The Phillips Geneva Watch Auction, held in association with Bacs & Russo. Vintage Rolex timepieces have been in the news for long as a new investment conveyance, and Rolex watch fans have been aware of it for quite some time. However, the ink appears to be rendering values much higher. And, this is indeed good news for those who have some vintage Rolexes sitting in the vaults and looking to ‘sell my watch’, ‘sell my Rolex’ or ‘sell watches’ for cash.

The Phillips Geneva Watch Auction has been the most successful watch auction of the season. Moreover, bidders from seventy-three different countries participated in the sale. Let’s have a look at the three Rolex vintage watches that set a new world record at the Geneva auction house.

The New World Records for Rolex

Phillips in alliance with Bacs & Russo is liable for the current round of record-breaking prices. For the first time, the Rolex Submariner ref. 5508 ‘Small Crown’ was auctioned, and it fetched about £391,218. The price is indeed more than double the watch’s high pre-sale estimate. There was also its ‘sister’ model auctioned for the first time– the Rolex Submariner ref.6200 ‘Big Crown’ that hailed from the actual owner’s family. The watch brought in £466,261.

Moreover, the minty 1950s Rolex ‘Padellone’ ref 8171 set a new world record, fetching an eye-popping £766,536. And then there was the iconic Rolex Daytona Ref. 16528 that came with an engraving from the Formula 1 Legend Ayrton Senna to his friend, manager and mentor Angelo Parrilla. The historic Daytona Reference 16528 hammered for £127,116.

Watches Beyond Rolex

A rarer platinum Patek Philippe ref. 5208P sold for £634,905; whereas a pink gold Patek Philippe reference 1436 went for £418,999. There was also the unique 1940s Vacheron Constantin ‘Don Pancho’ minute repeater, featuring day along with a retrograde date. This vintage Vacheron Constantin watch set a new world record at auction, achieving £578,492.

The Zenith El Primero Reference A382 achieved nearly £31,268, illustrating that this quite underrated watch could significantly fetch massive returns in future. And also worth noting was the Longines Eberhard A7 ref. 3592 pilot watch that brought in a cool £195,411.
