The Rolex ‘Super Case’: A Way to Acknowledge the Trend for Larger Watches

If you talk about contemporary Rolex sports watch models, the term ‘super-case’ may crop up when delineating specific watches. At the Baselworld 2006, Rolex launched a brand new stainless steel ‘Super-case’ Submariner Reference 116610LN. Thus, what is exactly this Rolex Super Case? Does it differ from other watch cases made by Rolex? If yes, then how? Today, let’s explore all the details about it.

Nonetheless, while nearly all Rolex watches tend to retain their value with time, you can choose to ‘sell my Rolex’ or ‘sell Rolex watches’ with full confidence. You are likely to obtain a competitive market price of your watch in good working condition from potential watch buyers, be it is a Super-case Rolex Submariner or a classic-case Rolex Daytona.

Let’s have a look at the Rolex Super-Case details below!

The Super-Case Rolex GMT-Master II Launched in 2005

Rolex launched a new generation GMT-Master II in 2005 as the yellow gold GMT-Master II Reference 116718. The brand new GMT watches came with a whole host of changes including the first Rolex’s Cerachrom ceramic bezel, GMT ‘Maxi Dial’ with wider Mercedes-style hands and more prominent hour markers and more significantly, the Rolex first ‘Super-Case’.

However, the new generation GMT-Master II watch’s case size measured 40mm as its predecessors. The only difference lied in the much broader case silhouette that was due to the broader bezel, fatter lugs and overall, a thicker profile. Thus, this case size is named as the ‘Super-Case’ so that it can be differentiated from the older Rolex Oyster Professional watch cases. The Oyster Professional cases possess similar diameter but lesser fatty build.

Rolex also released other metal options of the brand new GMT-Master II like the white gold GMT-Master II reference 116719, the bi-tone GMT-Master II Reference 116713 and the stainless steel GMT-Master II Reference 116710. Although each of this new GMT-Master watch comes in different material construction, all of them flaunt the Rolex ‘Super-Case’.

The Rolex Submariner Super-Case Debuted in 2008

The new generation Rolex Submariner diver watch was released in 2008, sporting 40mm case size like its older references. Initially, two models were introduced in two gold versions – the Submariner Reference 116618 in yellow gold and the Submariner Reference 116619 in white gold.

Similar to the new generation GMT-Master II watches, the new Rolex Submariner models flaunted robust super cases, Rolex ‘Maxi Dial’ and Cerachrom ceramic bezels. While the two-tone Rolex Submariner reference 116613 joined the Rolex catalogue the following year, the Submariner Reference 116610 was introduced in stainless steel after a year.

So, how does Rolex Super Case differ from Classic Case?

Rolex introduced the ‘Super Case’ design ideally to acknowledge the trend for bigger men’s timepieces without increasing the case size measurements more than 40mm. If a Rolex Submariner with a super-case is placed next to a Rolex Submariner with a classic-case, you can immediately observe the differences. While some people may prefer the new contemporary ‘Super Case’ design, others love the more traditional and moderate form of the classic case. So, what do you prefer – Super or Classic?

Regardless, Rolex is considered to be the pioneer of the wristwatches since its inception in 1905. The brand is indeed at the origin of historical innovations in luxury watch-making, including the self-winding perpetual rotor mechanism and the first Oyster waterproof watch. Thus, if you are looking to ‘sell Rolex watch’ or ‘sell my Rolex watch’, you can rest assured to acquire the most competitive price from professional Rolex watch buyers in London or anywhere in the UK.
