Rolex Submariner Hulk vs Rolex Submariner Kermit: What’s the Difference?

Besides the brand’s logo, Rolex typically uses green only for their anniversary and special edition watches. And, two of the brand’s most popular diver watches in the world are the green Rolex Submariner Hulk 116610LV and the Rolex Submariner Kermit 16610LV. The Rolex Submariner hardly requires any introduction – the first diver wristwatch that represented a historic turning point in the watchmaking soon after its debut. Whether it is the Submariner Hulk or the Submariner Kermit, they are highly desirable and sought-after among Rolex lovers. Thus, if you are looking to raise some fast cash, you can choose to ‘sell my Rolex’ or ‘sell Rolex watch’ to potential watch buyers in London with full confidence.

However, let’s today take a closer look at these two famous timepieces that are pretty much similar in many aspects but still decidedly different. Have a look!

Rolex Submariner Kermit Ref. 16610LV

At the Baselworld 2003, Rolex launched the Submariner reference 16610LV for celebrating the 50th anniversary of the popular Submariner. While the manufacturer decided to fabricate something different, they released the Submariner ‘Kermit’ with an exquisite green bezel into their collection. The watch was indeed very eccentric for Rolex aficionados who have used the versatile and conventional black Rolex Submariner for years.

The Rolex Submariner Anniversary ref. 16610LV featured a 40mm steel case, a new green unidirectional aluminium bezel with black ‘Maxi’ dial and a stainless steel flat-link Oyster bracelet, water resistance up to 1,000ft. However, the interesting fact is that the letters ‘LV’ in the watch’s reference number stands for ‘Lunette Verte’ that means ‘Green Bezel’ in French. However, the brand discontinued the production of ‘Kermit’ after some years, and the Submariner ‘Hulk’ was introduced to replace it.

Rolex Submariner Hulk 116610LV

The Rolex Submariner reference 116610LV was introduced in 2010 for replacing the Kermit reference 16610LV. Although the Submariner ‘Hulk’ share some common features like a 40mm watch case, a green bezel, stainless steel body and Oyster bracelet, it indeed differs significantly from the ‘Kermit’ in many aspects.

The Rolex Submariner 116610LV watch sports a broader ‘Super Case’ along with squarer crown guards and bulkier lugs. Overall, despite having the similar 40mm case size as the Kermit, the reference 116610LV looks bulkier than its previous version. Moreover, the green bezel is made up of Cerachrom ceramic instead of aluminium.

Unlike the ‘Kermit’ reference, the Submariner ‘Hulk’ also flaunts a vibrant green dial that uses Chromalight luminous element for hands and indexes, and they glow blue in the dark rather than green. However, the watch is also powered by the self-winding Calibre 3135, retaining the same water resistance depth.

Whether you are planning to ‘sell Rolex Submariner Kermit’ or ‘sell Rolex watch London’ of any contemporary style, you are likely to obtain a highly competitive market price from a professional and trustworthy watch buyer who genuinely understand the monetary significance of Rolex watches.

Kermit vs Hulk: A Brief Comparison

Although the Submariner ‘Hulk’ was introduced with many improved features than the Submariner ‘Kermit’, many Rolex lovers are known to favour the Kermit more as it appears pretty close to the classic black Submariner.

Bezel – Firstly, the Rolex Submariner Hulk’s bezel comes in a deeper shade of green; whereas, the bezel of reference 16610LV is more like an emerald green. Secondly, while Kermit’s bezel was made from aluminium, Rolex upgraded the Hulk using Cerachrom bezel that is highly resistant to corrosion and scratches.

Case & Crown – While both ‘Hulk’ and ‘Kermit’ have 40mm case sizes, the Hulk appears more prominent compared to the Kermit upon close examination. The fact is that the Hulk’s ‘Super Case’ along with broader lugs and crown guards make the watch looks bigger. Moreover, the crown guards on the Hulk are flat-edged, while the Kermit has sharper ones.

Bracelet – When it comes to the bracelet, you will also notice the difference in their respective bracelet clasps. The Submariner Hulk comes with Rolex’s Glidelock clasp, while the Kermit is equipped with the Oysterlock clasp.

Both the Hulk and Kermit possess distinctive features that make them highly coveted and collectable. However, the discontinued anniversary Rolex Submariner ‘Kermit’ watch tends to hold a higher resale value compared to the Submariner Hulk on the second hand luxury watch industry. Nonetheless, while the Hulk is yet available in the market, it has indeed become very popular among modern Rolex collectors.
